summary of the updates to CB-IV
The Carbon Bond-IV photochemical
mechanism is a widely used and
accepted model of tropospheric
chemistry. A new and updated version
of CB-IV is presented here accompanied
by all of the documentation upon
which the changes to the mechanism
are based. CB-IV_99 is better than
the currently used versions of
the Carbon Bond mechanisms for several reasons:
- It is fully documented and has
been subjected to the USEPA mandated
vindication procedure for regulatory
photochemical mechaisms
- It combines the best of the old
versions of CB-IV with the currently best-
available information from the
literature
- It is developed using a revised
smog chamber wall mechanism that uses
the most current knowledge of surface
and heterogeneous chemistry

The new CB-IV mechanism and
wall model are available here,
as well as the PKSS and Morpho
software packages.
