Summary of Recent Updates to CB-IV

The following features highlight the improvements of the CB-IV_99 mechanism
over currently used versions of CB-IV:

  • Completely reevaluated rate data that is consistent with the current literature.
    • use of pressure dependent rates for relevent reactions
    • thorough evaluation of rates for which there is no consensus in the literature
    • verification of the change in mechanism performance following the rate updates through smog chamber modeling
  • Newly recommended photolysis data consistent with the current literature.
    • thorough review of the available photolysis data sources
    • completely explicit representation of all of the relevent photolysis reactions
  • Reevaluated organic reaction mechanisms that reflect the best available information and coincide with the updated inorganic reactions.
    • updated product stoichiometry for the olefin and ethylene reaction sets
    • explicit methane representation
    • updated reaction rates for most of the organic reactions
  • Incorporation of fully documented and verified past changes to CB-IV.
  • Mechanism development with a new and improved chamber wall model that reflects the best available information on surface chemistry.
  • Systematic approach to the mechanism development that follows the EPA mandated procedure for regulatory photochemical models.
